SWAN is a Prevention and Education program offered through the South Windsor Youth & Family Services Dept.
The goal of the SWAN program is to promote positive parenting and awareness of the issues of families and children. SWAN programs follows the National Extension Parent Education Model which emphasizes care for self, understanding, guiding, nurturing, motivating and advocacy.
Educational and Support Services are provided for residents of South Windsor and surrounding areas including grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUPS
Kids with Incredible Potential Support Group
A monthly group for parents of children with ADD/ADHD. This facilitated group provides a non-judgmental environment for parents to share the joys and challenges associated with raising a child with ADD/ADHD. We meet on the last Thursday of each month. Please call 648-6361 x314 for more information.
YOUNG MOM’S SUPPORT GROUP
A monthly support group for mom’s between the ages of 17 and 21. We offer support and education. Children are welcome. Call 648-6361 x314 for more information.
GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN
This group offers support for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. We meet on an as needed basis. Please call 648-6361 x314 for more information.
PARENTING STUDY GROUPS
SWAN offers a number of parent study group throughout the year. Participants learn techniques to improve communication with their children and encourage appropriate behavior. These groups generally run in 6 week sessions. Please call the SWAN Coordinator for the exact dates.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
SWAN believes that families may need help with some aspect of parenting at various times during the family life cycle. The SWAN staff will provide a consultation and/or a home visit to any South Windsor parent who believes their relationship with their child could be improved by access to relevant information, resources, or more effective parenting techniques.
Community & Professional Education
SWAN provides educational seminars to inform area residents and community professionals about issues facing parents over the life span.
SWAN is an information and referral resource. The South Windsor Parent Resource Room may be used by other agencies in the community as well as by families. Materials are available on a variety of topics including:
