Street Sweeping of local streets in South Windsor begins the week of March 17th weather permitting. The program may be delayed due to snow/ice frozen in the gutters.
This winter season no sand was used on Town roads therefore there will be no need to sweep or rake lawns into the street. We will continue to sweep the streets free from silt, sand and debris that accumulate on them. The elimination of abrasives during the winter season will contribute to less sediment in the catch basins resulting in less maintenance and cleaner storm water.
Program equipment consists of one Town owned sweeper and two or more rental sweepers. A contingent of dump trucks to haul the sweepings and a water truck are also provided.
The success of the program depends on minimizing backtracking to streets that have already been swept.
Sweepers are designed to collect sand. They are not designed for picking up sticks, stones or other debris. Large items can damage the equipment and delay the program.
Public Works crews will begin in District 1 on or about March 17th, 2008. District 1 is bounded by Avery Street on the west and the Vernon Town line. The area includes streets in Avery Heights, Woodland Drive area, Pine Knob Drive area, and the Partridge Lane area. Also included is the Debbie Drive-Lisa Drive area.
