ANNUAL REPORT
2007-2008
ENGINEERING DIVISION
During 2007-2008 the Engineering Staff managed the design of improvements to; the Felt Road bridge over the Farm Brook, the Main Street Bridge over Stoughtons Brook, Deming Street between Buckland Road and Grandview Terrace, Nevers Road between Lake Street and Miller Road, Avery Street Drainage by Phillip R. Smith School, replacement of the culverts crossing Graham Road just north of Ayers Road, and the reconstruction of Kelly Road. Engineering personnel also, managed the construction of two new athletic fields at Rye Street Park, replacement of the culverts crossing Miller Road by Ellington Road, the construction of the new, expanded Community Center Parking lot and the reconstruction of the east driveway and front parking lot at the South Windsor Police Station. We continue to add information on roads, sanitary sewers, and
storm drainage to the Town’s Geographical Information System (GIS).
Engineering staff inspected the construction of roads, sidewalks, sanitary sewers, and storm drainage for, Phase 1 of the Dzen Subdivision and other developments.
We participated in the Public Works Day at Phillip R. Smith School, giving the children an opportunity to learn about taking care of our storm water drainage systems, and to view maps we have in our Town Geographical Information System and to see how the survey equipment works.
The Engineering Division issued and inspected 100 Drain Layers Permits for sanitary sewer connections and 214 Street Excavation Permits. In addition, we reviewed 45 building permit requests to ensure that they met the requirements of the Planning and Zoning approved plans. We have reviewed 45 plans for new development and performed site inspections for 50 requests for Certificates of Occupancy to make sure they agree with the approved site plans.
