BULKY WASTE COLLECTION

Residential Homes
Certain large items of waste can no longer be mixed with refuse.  A separate collection for these items will be made once each month during the first full week of the month, beginning on Monday, on trash Collection Day.  Bulky items must be separated from other refuse and recyclables and placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. for collection. Home improvement contractor generated building material wastes are not acceptable.  For demolition waste, homeowner should make waste disposal arrangements with a private contractor.

CONDOMINIUMS
Bulk items (items not fitting in dumpster) will be collected once each month during the first full week of the month, on Friday only;  This includes Plum Ridge Condos.  It is not necessary for the condominium association or resident of the condominium to call the Public Works Department for bulky waste collection.  Home improvement contractor generated building material wastes are not acceptable.

2012 Collection Schedule

Bulk waste collection will be picked up on the following weeks beginning on Monday:

Week of January 2, 2012
Weel of February 6, 2012
Week of March 5, 2012
Week of April 2, 2012
Week of May 7, 2012
Week of June 4, 2012
Week of July 2, 2012 (one day delayed starting on Wednesday, July 4th)
Week of August 6, 2012
Week of September 3, 2012 (one day delayed due to Labor Day)
Week of October 1, 2012
Week of November 5, 2012
Week of December 3, 2012
These items for separate collection include, but are not limited to the following:
Sofas, sleeper sofas, overstuffed chairs
Household furniture (tables and chairs)
Mattresses, box springs
Carpets, rugs – must be rolled & tied & not larger than 5’ in width
Large spools or rolls of paper and ribbon
Non-metal cans and drums exceeding 5 gallon capacity
Ceramic sinks, toilets and bathtubs

Non-acceptable Items for Bulky Waste Collection are:
Windows, Kitchen cabinets or counter tops
Construction Material and demolition material such as: lumber, sheetrock, etc.

How do I get rid of.....
1. Paint – if latex (water-base) air dry and dispose with trash. If not dry, try adding kitty litter to absorb any liquid. Save non-water base paint/stain for  Household Hazardous Waste Collection.
2. Scrap Metal– is recyclable, call Town Hall prior to noon on Tuesday for Wednesday scheduled metal pick up.
3. Brush must be placed in the automated refuse collection container.
        Brush may also be delivered by the homeowner to Green Cycle in Ellington.
