The Town of South Windsor has converted to an Automated System of Trash Collection. This change was done to control the cost of the Town-wide refuse collection and to improve the appearance of our neighborhoods with the use of a standard wheeled cart for collection.
The conversion requires the use of a uniform type of trash container by all residents. Each residence was supplied with one container. The containers are available in two (2) sizes: 96 gallon and 65 gallon. The 96 gallon container will hold the equivalent of three (3) standard size garbage cans. The containers have wheels and an attached lid.
Under the automated collection program all bagged refuse must be placed in the container provided or it will not be collected. The standard color for all containers will be dark green.
If you wish to exchange the container you’ve received for either a larger or smaller container, please contact the Public Works Department at 644-2511, extension 243, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
You may also order additional containers through contacting the Public Works Department at 644-2511, extension 243 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payment must be received by the Town before delivery of the additional container. Additional containers will be delivered within 48 hours of receipt of payment by the Town.
There will be an annual charge of $70 for each additional container (subject to annual rate increases). This fee is for the collection of refuse from the additional can(s) you request, not the can itself. All cans are the property of the contractor. Please DO NOT take the trash container or the recycling bin should you move/sell your house.
Bulky waste collection will be collected on a weekly basis on the resident’s regular collection day.
