Elderly Homeowners and Totally Disabled-Persons Tax Relief Program


Home Owner's  Program For The Elderly and Totally Disabled
Filing Period is between February 1st and May 15th

A tax relief program for elderly and totally disabled persons who meet certain income parameters is available to those who qualify. Once a person is approved for a tax credit, he must submit an application on a biennial basis. Under the property tax credit program an applicant must, as of the October 1st assessment date:

· Be a Connecticut Resident
· Record owner, hold a life use, both on October 1st
· Be 65 years of age as of December 31st preceding the date in which he files an application for tax relief
· Be receiving permanent total disability benefits from one of the following

Applications will be processed at the Senior Center by appointment only (648-6361). Be sure to bring with you at the time of your appointment the following documents;
· Social Security Statement (SSA-1099)
· Pension Statement
· Bank Interest Statement
· Any other income

At that time application will be processed for the “Local Option” in which the town matches qualified state benefit (up to 75% of applicable tax maximum)



Renter's Program For The Elderly and Totally Disabled
Filing period is between May 15th and September 15th
Renters Program is basically the same as Homeowners program except, you will need to bring additional information when filing an application at the Senior Center:

· Social Security Statement (SSA-1099)
· Pension Statement
· Bank Interest Statement
· Any other income
· Proof of Rent for 12 months
· Payments of Electric, Gas, Water and Fuel for 12 months
