FELT ROAD BRIDGE OVER FARM BROOK
Project Description
The Felt Road Bridge over the Farm Brook is an old bridge and is in need of repair. A Study done in 2005 by WMC Consulting Engineers found that this bridge was constructed around 1955 and has deteriorated significantly. The underside of the concrete bridge deck and the concrete abutments are deteriorating, the railing is inadequate and there are utilities that run through the bridge and obstruct the flow path.
Recommended Solution
This Bridge needs to be replaced with a box culvert and the utilities relocated outside the bridge. This work needs to be done in the next 4 years or this bridge will start to need more repairs and may have to be posted for a reduced load rating.
Schedule
Engineering Design 90% complete, Permitting in 2008
Easements/ROW To be acquired in 2008

Status (as of 7/7/08)
The design of this bridge is 90% complete and plans have been sent to the ConnDOT for approval (they are funding 31% of this project under the local bridge program) and ConnDEP for permits.
Updated July 2008
September 09, 2009 Update
The reconstruction of the Felt Road Bridge is well under way despite a temporary lull in the construction activity. The first phase of the project has been completed which involved the relocation of existing utilities including sanitary sewer and water main lines, and the temporary relocation of electric, cable, and telephone poles and lines. The old bridge and headwalls have been removed and temporary drainage pipes and cofferdams have been installed.
The Town’s contractor, Folsom Construction is currently constructing the concrete footings for the new precast concrete bridge components which are scheduled for installation starting the week of September 21st. After the main bridge components are installed, new storm sewers for road drainage, sidewalks, guardrails, and pavement will be constructed. Felt Road will remain closed for the duration of the project which is slated for completion by mid November of this year.
