Major Michael Donnelly Land Preserve
Trails stretch over wetlands, woods, and fields from Sullivan Avenue to West Road and pass over the Podunk River. Wooden pathways over marshy areas and bridges over sections of the river have been constructed for easier passage. Along the way you will find blinds for sitting and observing wildlife. At the beginning of these trails you will find a gazebo and fishing dock on the side of a small pond where you can enjoy some fishing.

On June 30, 2007, “My Friend’s Place,” a Boundless Playground, opened at Nevers Road Park. This Playground allows children and adults of all abilities to “come together and experience the wonder of play in a safe, barrier-free environment.” The Town of South Windsor has over 2,500 elementary school aged children and over 250 of them have special needs. The Boundless Playground “offers an environment where EVERYONE can laugh, play, learn and grow together, regardless of ability.”
The Wapping Park ribbon cutting ceremony took place on October 25, 2009. A fairly new addition to South Windsor's recreational areas, the main entrance to Wapping Park is located on Clark Street near Deming Street. The area offers peace and relaxation for all members of the family and for those who are just looking for some bonding time with Mother Nature.
South Windsor Wildlife Sanctuary
This is a great place for nature enthusiasts to go for a stroll. It is left as untouched as possible to preserve the natural environment. Paths are maintained just enough to make them passable. Signs along the trails display information on the types of vegetation that are present. Atop the sledding hill located in the Sanctuary is the highest point in South Windsor which provides an impressive view of surrounding areas.
Veteran's Memorial Park
Summer heat really getting unbearable? Come visit Veteran's Memorial Park and take a refreshing dip in the pool. Residents and non-residents can purchase day or season passes for individuals or entire families. Basketball courts and an open field provide passive recreation in between cannonballs.
This is the ideal place to get some exercise and to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. A stone-dust path stretches along athletic fields, past the Bark Park and through a section of woods. Along the way you will find ponds, streams and vernal pools as well as exercise stations ranging from pull-ups to calf stretches.
